School Eisteddfod

From 1922 to 1974, all students in the Jackson, Ohio school system were required to sing solo in the Eisteddfod. Today, the event is voluntary and students are allowed to sing in small groups with piano accompaniment.

The high school Eisteddfod, held at Jackson Middle School, offers students in grades 6-12 a chance to display their musical talent in band instruments, piano and vocal competitions. Certificates or trophies are usually awarded and a Welsh flag goes to the winner of the vocal solo competition.

The elementary Eisteddfod, held at the individual schools, offers a certificate to students who sing short verses of traditional or religious songs with piano accompaniment.
